Queen Wilhelmina Tree

The original orange tree was planted to celebrate Wilhelmina becoming Queen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 31 August 1898. She helped evacuate President Kruger from South Africa at the age of 20 and became a strong leader. The current tree (the third successor) stands in Burgerspark, which was designed by Sytze Wierda and George Hays, with the help of the botanist James Hunter.

Designers:
Sytze Wopkes Wierda (architect, original layout), George Hays, James Hunter (botanist)
